Call for Work
Re: Figuring the Body
Kingston Gallery is calling for submissions of contemporary art for a juried exhibition Re: Figuring the Body to be held at Kingston Gallery in Boston’s SoWA arts district July 3 – August 11, 2019. Juried by a panel of five Kingston Gallery artists: Conny Goelz Schmitt, Mary Lang, Nat Martin, Ann Wessmann, Chantal Zakari.
We are seeking artists who are actively redefining “the body” in the current political climate. We welcome work that is visually engaging which will foster important conversations about the body in relation to gender identity, race, self-representation from a cultural and historical perspective, and the body politic. We are interested in a wide range of definitions regarding the contemporary figure in visual arts. Re: Figuring the Body can also mean taking the body into account, being embodied, alive, human. In an era of alternative facts and identity politics, “figuring it out” stakes out new understandings of the body, from science and DNA, to gender and sexuality, to the body as both a battleground and a refuge.
All media will be considered, alternative media is welcomed. There is no minimum size requirement, but once installed, work may not exceed 6 feet in height.
An artist-run gallery incorporated in 1982, Kingston Gallery exhibits work of Boston-area contemporary artists.
